To meet this challenge—and thereby provide you with the most useful and insightful educational rankings on the Internet — TheBestSchools.org formulates our rankings based on five informational categories (six, when considering online schools). The major metrics and qualities for which we rank are these (with expanded, detailed considerations and weights listed):
Many believe that online counseling should not replace in-office counseling. Rather, it should complement your traditional counseling sessions, as online counseling offers a range of benefits to users. Others however, including thousands of satisfied customers already using online counseling services, boast that that level of connection they are able to make with their therapists online make in-person counseling unnecessary. Some of the most common benefits associated with online counseling are:

For Freshman Satisfaction or Retention Rate and 6-year Graduation Rates, the % sign was dropped for the ease of scoring. For example, a Graduation or Freshman Satisfaction rate of 65% would become simply 65. All numbers are whole numbers with no decimals provided from NCES. These statistics provide valuable insight into the overall quality of education provided by these online schools.
Is the site or app secure? Will the information I provide remain confidential? Psychotherapy works in part because psychologists ensure that clients have a safe, private space to share deeply personal and sometimes difficult stories, thoughts or emotions. What happens and is said in a therapy office stays there, with the exception of a few situations. The site or app you use should, at a minimum, be HIPAA-compliant and have the ability to verify your identity and your therapist’s identity.
Central Michigan University is a public research university—the largest university in Michigan—and a highly regarded provider of online education. It is important to know exactly what your career goals are and what you want to get out of a graduate degree before you begin applying to online master's programs. Most people who earn online master's degrees do so with the goal of getting a higher-paying job. If you fall into this category, it's important to have a solid understanding of the job market in your industry. For some fields, like social work or psychology, a graduate degree is required for even entry-level jobs. In other fields, like business, online master's programs and MBAs can prepare you for significant salary increases or senior leadership roles. Finally, in fields like education, a master's degree can automatically qualify you for a higher salary, and choosing one of the best online master's programs can allow you to earn that degree while you work full-time. Graduate school may not be the best choice for all career paths. For example, the typical salary of a worker with a master's degree in petroleum engineering is only $5,000 more per year than the salary of a worker with only a bachelor's degree in the same subject.
Bachelor's degrees are delivered asynchronously and can be earned online in fields like Africana studies, business administration, economy and industry, geographic information systems, meteorology, informatics, and sustainable built environments. Among other notable programs is the BAS in intelligence studies, a 2+2 program in which students transfer an AAS into the program and complete the last two years at Arizona. The program provides students with a historical, political, social, and cultural understanding of national and international intelligence agencies. The BAS in cyber operations is also a transfer-only program and immerses students in hands-on study of offensive and defensive cyber security techniques they practice within the institution's Cyber Virtual Learning Environment.
The 120-credit BS in strategic communications - social media management empowers students to maximize future employer’s online impact; completion of the program certifies students in both Google Analytics and Hootsuite. The 120-credit bachelor in applied science gives students the expertise needed to pursue leadership roles in technical fields. The program builds on technical coursework taken in an associate of applied science curriculum and offers concentrations in renewable energy technology and technology.

In the earliest days of the iPhone, Cydia arose as a rival distribution channel to Apple’s App Store, built specifically for jailbroken smartphones. Now, more than decade later, Cydia founder Jay “Saurik” Freeman has decided to shut down in-app purchasing through the Cydia mobile store after he acknowledged a bug related to PayPal digital token authorization that affected “very few users,” via TechCrunch. Through Cydia, users could buy mobile software designed to run on a jailbroken iOS device, but the jailbreaking community has grown smaller over the years as Apple’s iOS ecosystem has grown more robust and secure.

A central reason for the increasing demand for online education is flexibility. Whether the student is seeking to go back to school, is a recent high school graduate that wants to attend a college in another state, or is a career advancer who wants to pursue a graduate degree, online college allows them to complete an education on their own terms. Online education helps students to craft a schedule that fits their lives, which is typically not possible in the traditional classroom. School can be woven into the student’s working and home lives instead of the other way around, making online classes the number one option for many in pursuit of a higher education.

To resolve some of these issues, content creators can voluntarily adopt open or copyleft licenses, giving up some of their legal rights, or they can release their work to the public domain. Among the most common open licenses are Creative Commons licenses and the GNU Free Documentation License, both of which are in use on Wikipedia. And some of those option may come at a reduced price. “For online students, some schools charge the same tuition rates for out-of-state students as in-state, which means it’s possible to get a degree from a school in another state for the same cost that students in that state are paying,” says Professor Andrew Selepak, Director of the Master Program in Social Media at the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida.

Many, though not all, of the private schools offering online programs are religious schools. Some of these schools incorporate scripture into their online program, though others do not, and have no religious requirements for distance learners. Private non-profit schools are often more expensive than other four-year options, so be sure to do your research and find a school that fits with your budget.

During an interview, a prospective employer wants to get to know you better as a person. Your resume tells a prospective employer everything he/she needs to know about your educational background, work history, and job skills. You’ll be expected to answer questions on these topics but, to ace an interview, you need to be able to speak beyond your resume.
"I was in a panic when I joined online counseling because I needed someone to talk to me and tell me they are there. Few minutes later, Mary came through. I typed out my worries and problems and we got right to it. Mary offered a lot of insight and hit the nail on the head as what was going on. Mary has helped me see things that my anxiety wasn't letting me. I'm thankful for Mary and the time she takes to answer my questions and encourages me to keep moving forward. I don't regret joining better help."

Since the beginning of the internet in 1972, several creative people perceived the potential of the internet for the therapeutic communication. In 1972, computers from Stanford and UCLA simulated a psychotherapy session that was considered the very beginning of online counseling.[3] At the time the internet went public, this launch went hand in hand with the development of the first self-help groups on the internet who were, in that time, very popular. In 1995, Martha Ainsworth had a couple of psychological complaints where she wanted to get rid of it, so she began searching for a competent therapist. Because her travel requirements made it difficult for her to consult a face-to-face therapist, she searched for an effective alternative online, but only found a dozen webpages that offered online treatment for psychological complaints. Afterwards, Martha Ainsworth wanted to reach the general public with her experiences and founded a sort of clearinghouse for mental health websites, named Metanoia. This database seemed to be a very efficient store-room and by the year 2000, this clearinghouse contained over 250 websites of private practices, and more than 700 online clinics where a therapist could be contacted.[4]
Founded in 1920, this private, evangelical university is both the largest university in the state of Indiana and the largest member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. IWU currently offers 100 degree and certificate programs online. The university follows an asynchronous curricular timetable; students usually take courses sequentially, one at a time, and can advance to the next course as soon as their current course has been successfully completed. This schedule allows students to earn a degree at their own pace -- and, often, in less time than other structured degree programs.

The owner of the memex, let us say, is interested in the origin and properties of the bow and arrow. Specifically he is studying why the short Turkish bow was apparently superior to the English long bow in the skirmishes of the Crusades. He has dozens of possibly pertinent books and articles in his memex. First he runs through an encyclopedia, finds an interesting but sketchy article, leaves it projected. Next, in a history, he finds another pertinent item, and ties the two together. Thus he goes, building a trail of many items. Occasionally he inserts a comment of his own, either linking it into the main trail or joining it by a side trail to a particular item. When it becomes evident that the elastic properties of available materials had a great deal to do with the bow, he branches off on a side trail which takes him through textbooks on elasticity and tables of physical constants. He inserts a page of longhand analysis of his own. Thus he builds a trail of his interest through the maze of materials available to him.[10]
