The Center for Online Education understands online colleges have a dynamic future as new technologies and new uses for existing tools change the way we communicate, connect, and collaborate. In the coming years, virtual reality, blended program delivery, makerspaces, predictive learning platforms, gigabit Internet speeds, and other emerging technologies will push the limits of what was once thought possible at online colleges. Social media and networking sites will continue to impact online teaching and learning, providing a virtual space for authentic interaction, relationship building, and participation in professional communities. Our in-house team, and panel of contributors, are all graduates of accredited colleges and are here to help inform your online college journey.
We’re not so different from the students we serve. Like them, we each have our individual goals, dreams, personal roadblocks, and vision for who want to be and where we want to go. Here at Ashworth College, we’re all about inspiring and enabling students to be their best selves, so we thought we’d share insights into what motivates our staff to GO BEYOND the ordinary and always—always—strive for more.

You should also ask admissions counselors if their school has any transfer agreements with colleges or universities that offer bachelor's degrees. It's common for a community college, even an online community college, to have relationships with other schools that give students priority acceptance to bachelor's degree programs after they earn an associate degree.
Remember: You are the consumer. You are buying a service. If you don’t want to immediately schedule another appointment, that is just fine! If you feel you need to contemplate the experience before making another appointment, trust your gut and do so. You don’t have to purchase a car simply because you take it out for a test drive, and you don’t have to continue with a counselor just because you had a session with them.
Earning an online college degree requires a substantial investment. While some students choose to pay for college out-of-pocket using savings or loans from their parents, many must seek financial aid to offset the costs of tuition, housing, food, and other necessary expenses. Many online schools also allow students to pay for tuition and housing in monthly installments, rather than paying one lump sum for each semester or quarter term. These deferred payment plans carry little to no interest, but the balance must be paid off by the end of each term.

Judson College is a private institution in Alabama that draws from its Baptist roots to form high standards of education and conduct. Being an undergraduate school with limited degree options, Judson College is best for students that want to earn a bachelor's degree in arts and sciences. However, the degrees that Judson College offers are well-regarded, and their track record has led them to become a respected institution. The online school at Judson College is also worth noting as it is one of the best online schools for an undergraduate degree. Just because students can study and earn their degree online doesn't mean that the courses or requirements are any easier, though. By earning an online degree from Judson, students will be just as prepared as any other graduate to begin their career.
The majority of IWU's online degree opportunities are available at the graduate level. The university's seven online MBA pathways include a general MBA, as well as dual-study MBA tracks in school administration, healthcare administration and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Other master's programs carry multiple specialization options, as well. These include a master's degree in counseling with six areas of concentration; a master's in education with 10 specialized tracks (many of which are subject-specific); and a master's in nursing track with seven possible specializations. Finally, grad students seeking a religious studies degree from Wesley Seminary can pursue a master's in four areas: divinity (with seven specializations); Maestría en Divinidad (Spanish-language divinity); ministry; and practical theology.
One of the BBA's fully-online specializations in business management integrates a business education with hands-on learning in order to prepare students for entry-level supervisory roles in management, marketing, finance, and human resources. The BBA's accounting and finance specialization is ideal for students seeking to move into managerial roles with a Certified Management Accountant title.
Though many of these concerns are valid, they vary on a case to case basis. Some have suggested that human/face to face contact is the only way a therapist can truly identify the feelings and behavior of their client. This may be true in some instances over chat therapy, however video therapy eliminates this issue, which in turn eliminates many of the ‘limits of effectiveness’ claim as well. Moreover, people living in rural areas may have spotty Internet connection. There are also some who point to transmission and server problems, an issue we found very little evidence of in our research.
Once you know what degree level you want to pursue, think carefully about what majors will have the biggest impact on your current career or future job prospects. Different majors teach different skills and have different points of emphasis. Multiple studies have shown that what you study has a bigger impact on future earning potential than where you go to school.

Originally founded as a junior college in 1963, this Georgia institution's main campus is located roughly 20 miles from downtown Atlanta. Kennesaw State's extensive distance learning program includes a mix of fully-online, hybrid and 'mixed-model' learning formats. Some of the university's courses are 95% online, with a single on-campus requirement (typically an exam or an orientation session); other courses are delivered 100% online.
The university’s online courses feature the same curriculum, lectures, and deadlines as their on-campus counterparts. University of North Dakota offers students two types of courses: self-paced, independent study, which allows students to enroll at any time while providing up to nine months for completion of each course; and semester-based courses, which follow the university’s standard schedule.
The relationship with your counselor is unique. You can see your licensed therapist as long as you want to so that you get the support you need. Everyone's journey is different, and there's no timeline for healing. You have the right to take your mental health into your hands. You and your counselor can collectively decide how frequent you meet and how long your relationship continues.
Through Bachelor of Arts completion programs and self-paced graduate programs, students will experience a customizable education experience with career-focused content. DU’s philosophy is to embrace technology to improve and accelerate learning for busy adults. Second, make sure all target schools have been accredited by one of the six regional accrediting agencies and/or, if it's an online-only school, by the Distance Education and Training Council. Accreditation means potential colleges and its target programs have been thoroughly vetted by an independent higher education agency endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education (check out the best accredited online colleges of 2016). Finally, make sure you know exactly what you need from an online degree. The flexibility offered by many programs is great, but the curriculum, professors and resources should have the same quality as their campus counterparts. Don't be afraid to call up counselors and talk to current and former students.
The owner of the memex, let us say, is interested in the origin and properties of the bow and arrow. Specifically he is studying why the short Turkish bow was apparently superior to the English long bow in the skirmishes of the Crusades. He has dozens of possibly pertinent books and articles in his memex. First he runs through an encyclopedia, finds an interesting but sketchy article, leaves it projected. Next, in a history, he finds another pertinent item, and ties the two together. Thus he goes, building a trail of many items. Occasionally he inserts a comment of his own, either linking it into the main trail or joining it by a side trail to a particular item. When it becomes evident that the elastic properties of available materials had a great deal to do with the bow, he branches off on a side trail which takes him through textbooks on elasticity and tables of physical constants. He inserts a page of longhand analysis of his own. Thus he builds a trail of his interest through the maze of materials available to him.
