Online associate degrees are particularly useful for those pursuing a career in a specific trade or one that requires a narrow and specialized set of skills, such as paralegal, nursing assistant or information technology (IT) professional. Many two-year schools offer degrees specifically for these industries that prepare graduates to pursue entry-level jobs. These schools, often known as trade schools, technical schools, or career colleges, tend to center around industries like healthcare, IT, and specific trades such as computer drafting. As online education becomes more common, more online trade schools and online career colleges have emerged. Our rankings can help you find the best online technical education options.

At TheBestSchools.org, we keep track of such social and peer validation: “ Making Sense of College Rankings.” For nuts-and-bolts information about colleges and universities, we look to the National Center for Education Statistics and especially its College Navigator. Insofar as salary and inflation data are relevant to a ranking, we look to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Finally, nothing beats contacting schools and degree programs directly, which our researchers often do, with the result that all the entries in this article should be considered as belonging to this citation!

While some form of tele-psychology has been available for over 35 years, the advent of internet video chat systems and the increasing penetration of broadband has resulted in a growing movement towards online therapy. Many of the methods used to facilitate online therapy sessions include a multimedia access platform such as TalkSpace, BetterHelp, and 7 Cups Online Therapy. Both of which enable users to receive initial treatment and therapy in a safe and discreet manner. Clients are using videoconferencing, live chat and email with professional psychologists in place of or in addition to face-to-face meetings.

But it’s not just about volume, the variety in online programs means greater potential for specialization. “People with very specific degree goals can find the niche that works for them. Instead of a degree in finance, you could get a degree in small business finance,” says Leatherwood. “If you’re in healthcare and like numbers, instead of a healthcare administration degree, you could look into the more than 75 graduate degrees in healthcare informatics,” Leatherwood adds. That kind of enhanced choice can mean more focused, aligned learning.
There are numerous reasons and a multitude of benefits that come along with an online degree compared to a traditional degree but the ones that stand out most would be the professors and the time and scheduling. At first I was wary of online professors and how they would stack up compared to in-person professors. To my surprise, at the University of Florida, some of the same professors that were in-person also taught online. This means that you know you are getting top quality teaching at a pace you enjoy as well as the amount of hours you want to put into a class rather than spending upwards of 3-4 hours in a small classroom. You are able to time out and schedule around your life as you please which has been the biggest blessing of my life.

An attorney for Spacey did not immediately reply to a request for comment. The actor, however, released a video on YouTube on Monday in which he adopts the persona of his character Frank Underwood in the popular Netflix TV series “House of Cards” and says, “I know what you want, you want me back … You wouldn’t rush to judgments without facts, would you?”
One of the top online colleges in the nation, Arkansas State ensures that its faculty members are trained in the online mode of delivery. Online learners have access to a diverse network of peers and support services, including tutoring and a help-desk. Note that online degrees are only available in some states, so students should check availability.
Students should also be wary of accreditation mills that offer genuine-looking but ultimately phony endorsements to schools. In the U.S., there are seven regional accrediting agencies that evaluate two-year and four-year colleges. Some states also have their own accrediting bodies independent of the regional agencies. You can learn more about each individual agency, and its jurisdiction, through the Office of Postsecondary Education.
The greatest asset of online learning is convenience. Many schools allow you to create your own schedule so you can attend classes, complete clinical training or even take exams when and where it is most convenient for you. This allows you to balance your education with your work schedule, any family obligations or even while traveling abroad―allowing you to never miss a beat!
Online learning has surged in popularity over the past decade. An estimated 5.8 million students were enrolled in online courses – a staggering 263% increase from just 12 years ago. There’s a reason online degree programs are on the rise. As technology has advanced, so have the capabilities for distance learning. In fact, 94% of academic leaders say that digital curricular resources have improved student learning, and it’s estimated that half of all college classes will be taught online by 2019. While there are plenty of benefits to online education, most students tend to be attracted to online colleges for their low tuition and the convenience they offer.

I looked at different programs but I decided on an online program because though they are challenging they are also the easiest that work with my schedule I can plan around my work. My motivation for attending college is to start a career in a field that I am interested in and help make a difference in my family as well as my career. Although it’s not easy to balance work responsibilities, life, family and school, it is manageable to do it when you don’t have to commute to a campus and commute back home after classes that takes time off your study time. Depending on the type of student I try to be an advocate to them in order to choose an online program because I know it has helped me to have a better balance of school, work, and life.

Dipping a toe in the water through an online program, even if it’s just a class or two, can help you gauge fit with your would-be future colleagues, says Elizabeth Malson, President of Amslee Institute, a licensed online diploma and certification program for Professional Nannies. “If you are unsure of the job opportunities available, the starting salary, or whether you are going to enjoy the work, then you’ve skipped an important step. I would recommend you find an internship or shadow someone in the career field before enrolling in a post-secondary training program. A few months delay before enrolling to be confident about your career path is worthwhile before you invest a significant amount of time and money.”

I think this would be of most interest for those who are planning to engage in any sort of counseling online..." --THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PSYCHIATRY
Over the past few years, Talkspace is one of two brands that has essentially become synonymous with the words “online therapy”. A primary reason for this is because they have done an incredible job of marketing themselves as one of the go-to therapy services. From online to TV advertisements, no matter where you look for an online therapy solution, Talkspace is seemingly always there, challenging you to sign up and use their service.

When looking for the right place to pursue their higher education goals, students often examine a variety of factors. One of the most important tends to be affordability. Those colleges that create a rigorous educational experience for a reasonable, affordable price are obviously quite attractive to fiscally-minded students. The schools below have met that goal of blending a high-quality education with a manageable cost. Our ranking of the Most Affordable Online Colleges for 2018 takes into account which schools provide the most programs, financial aid options with lower rates and services necessary for online students while also keeping tuition and fees at a reasonable level.
You should also ask admissions counselors if their school has any transfer agreements with colleges or universities that offer bachelor's degrees. It's common for a community college, even an online community college, to have relationships with other schools that give students priority acceptance to bachelor's degree programs after they earn an associate degree.
Despite what some students may think, online colleges are no less challenging than traditional colleges. Depending on a student’s learning style, keeping up with online work may actually prove to be more demanding for some. When asked about the greatest challenges they face while studying online, a majority of students in a Learning House survey cited motivation, attention, and focus as their main concerns.
More psychologists are exploring online sites and apps just as more patients are interested in using them. Research does show that some technological tools can help when used in conjunction with in-office therapy. Many psychologists and patients are finding text messages helpful for quick check-ins or reminders. Some apps can help track and log moods or thoughts. Web-conferencing and streaming in real time can offer continuity when a patient is on vacation or not able to make a regular session. There are cases in which Web-conferencing or therapy via telephone does seem to be a viable option on its own for some people. But for now, with the current research and with the current technology, mobile apps and text messaging are best used as complementary to in-person psychotherapy.
All of the online schools, at any degree level, featured on our website are accredited, ensuring that they meet high standards of quality. In order to be accredited, online colleges are evaluated based on criteria such as curricula, faculty, course offerings, facilities, financial resources, and support services. Accreditation in the United States comes from federal and state agencies as well as non-governmental bodies approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Accreditation not only demonstrates the quality of an online school, but can also determine whether credits are transferable to other accredited online colleges. To find out whether an accreditation agency is legitimate, make sure it is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
And since many universities have embraced the flexible online format, more employers are taking these degrees – and other online credentials, like graduate certificates – seriously, experts say. It’s important, they note, to check if a degree program is accredited before enrolling to make sure that it’s legitimate; having regional accreditation will also increase the likelihood that any earned credits will be accepted at other accredited universities.
Compared to traditional in-person therapy, it can sometimes appear less expensive. Some apps will advertise pricing that provides unlimited use for a weekly or monthly fee. Or the online session may seem significantly lower than in-office visits. If you’re not interested in using health insurance for psychotherapy, this can be a benefit. More about insurance and online therapy is discussed in the next section.
Even though one big advantage of an online college or university is the fact that you can take courses anywhere in the world, most online students take classes from a school within 100 miles of where they live. Online programs offer a great deal of flexibility, but enrolling in an online degree program close to your home can offer some big advantages. If you enroll in an online program close to home, you can save money with in-state tuition, easily access campus resources like libraries, gyms or in-person office hours with professors, and you can access hybrid programs, which require you to spend some time on campus in addition to online curriculum.
